Jake Paul’s first boxing match since last year is set for Saturday, June 28, when he takes on former champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Paul (11-1), a YouTuber-turned-professional boxer, hasn’t competed since the biggest fight of his career last November against the legend Mike Tyson. The fight lasted eight, 2-minute rounds and ended with Paul defeating Tyson by unanimous decision.
Paul vs. Tyson, which took place at the Dallas Cowboys‘ AT&T Stadium, became the most-streamed sporting event on Netflix, with an estimated 65 million viewers.
It appeared Paul’s next fight would be against Canelo Alvarez, but the matchup fell through after Alvarez signed a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. Instead of Canelo, Paul is fighting another famous Mexican in Chavez Jr., the son of legendary former champion Julio Cesar Chavez.
Chávez Jr. (54-6-1), who last held a major world title in 2012, will enter on a two-fight winning streak after most recently defeating former UFC fighter Uriah Hall by unanimous decision last July.
Paul and Chavez Jr. do share a common opponent in former UFC champion Anderson Silva. In 2021, Silva shocked the boxing world when he won a split decision against Chavez Jr. after eight rounds. In 2022, Paul defeated Silva by unanimous decision in an eight-round fight.
