HIGH POINT – High Point University has added four players to its men’s basketball roster since the transfer portal opened last week.
CJ Brown from South Florida, Isaac Garrett from Oakland, Jason Rivera-Torres from Monmouth and Frankquon Sherman from Kennesaw State have joined the Panthers following their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Brown, a 6-foot-2 junior guard, started in 34 games for the Bulls and averaged 10.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game.
He helped USF win the American Conference tournament for first time in 36 years and made the NCAA Tournament for first time in 14 years. As a freshman, he was named to the AAC All-Freshman Team and was coached by current High Point assistant coach Ben Fletcher.
Garrett, a 6-8 senior forward, averaged 13.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks per game this season. He started in all 28 games for Oakland and scored a career-high 30 points on 16 for 16 free throws against Robert Morris.
Rivera-Torres, a 6-7 senior guard, averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game this season at Monmouth. He ranked top 10 in the CAA for scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and average minutes played.

He was named to the second team All-CAA and the CAA All-Defensive Team.
Sherman, a 6-7 senior forward, averaged 10.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.7 blocks per game this season at Kennesaw State. He helped Kennesaw State win its first-ever Conference USA championship for a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
High Point went 31-5 this season – this most wins in program history – and 15-1 in the Big South Conference. It won both the conference regular season and tournament titles and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second year – upsetting Wisconsin in the opening round for its first tournament win.
The transfer portal will close on Tuesday.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – High Point University’s Rob Martin was the Mid-Major selection for the Oscar Robertson National Players of the Month.
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association chooses High-Major and Mid-Major players of the month each month during the season.
Martin, a 5-10 senior guard, had 23 points, 10 assists and two blocks in High Point’s 83-82 upset over No. 5 seed Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 19. He added 30 points in the Panthers’ second-round loss against fourth-seeded Arkansas.
Martin averaged 22.2 points and 6.0 assists for the Big South champs in March.

CONFERENCE TRACK HONORS
CHARLOTTE – High Point’s Zamesha Myle, Mya Hines and Ricardo Montes de Oca are among this week’s Big South Conference track and field athletes of the week.
On the women’s side, Myle was the Track Athlete of the Week while Hines was the Field Athlete of the Week. On the men’s side, Montes de Oca was the Field Athlete of the Week.
Myle placed 12th out of 56 competitors in the 100m (11.65) at the Texas A&M 44 Farms Invitational. She also ran the 200m (23.96) in a Big South-leading time to place 26th out of 87. Myle was also0 third in the triple jump (12.91m).

Hines was 10th in the heptathlon with a personal-best 5,141 points – the fifth-highest score in Big South history. She had a PR in the 100m hurdles (14.45), plus added personal bests in the high jump (1.78m) and the 200m (24.97).
Montes de Oca broke four records with a clearance of 5.70m to win the men’s pole vault Invite event. He shattered the Big South record, Venezuelan record, program record and meet record with his jump of nearly 19 feet. This was his second straight week earning the Field Athlete of the Week award.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
HIGH POINT – High Point University lost 14-13 against East Carolina in nonconference women’s lacrosse Wednesday at Vert Stadium.

Lily Trout and Ella McKay each scored three goals for the Panthers (5-9). Anna Mullikin added two goals and three assists, while Tatum Goettelmann, Shannon Smith, Bella Germani and Eva Thorn each had a goal and an assist. Ava Grandi scored on goal.
Ava Welsh made six saves in goal.
