Hurricanes add talented Conference USA defensive lineman

The Hurricanes are losing at least six defensive linemen this offseason, but they took a step toward rebuilding that unit Saturday afternoon.

Louisiana Tech defensive tackle David Blay committed to Miami, sharing the news on his social media page. Blay is the third transfer commit of the offseason for UM, joining wide receiver C.J. Daniels and safety Zecheriah Poyser.

Blay was a standout at Louisiana Tech. He was listed as the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 23 transfer by 247Sports. Blay chose Miami over offers from Oklahoma, USC and Penn State, among others.

Blay has been on an upward trajectory since his college career began. The Pennsylvania native was an unrated recruit in high school and began his college career at Division II West Chester. He spent two seasons there before transferring to Louisiana Tech.

Blay spent two seasons with the Bulldogs, breaking out this year. He was an All-Conference USA selection after notching 46 tackles with 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Pro Football Focus gave Blay a 73.7 defensive grade with a 77.7 run-defense grade and a 64.7 pass-rushing grade.
