Recruiting season is in full swing, and the Miami Hurricanes are starting to pick up steam on the trail. Saturday, Miami hosted recruits and their families to an on-campus pool party after the Canes completed the first scrimmage of spring practice.
Joel Ervin was one of several offensive line targets in attendance and informed the staff that he was shutting down his recruitment after committing to Miami.

Ervin, out of Fort Myers High School, was committed to Louisville for just over two weeks before backing off his commitment after his unofficial visit to Miami last weekend.
The highly sought-after three-star tackle, chose Miami over offers from Georgia, Louisville, Florida, Florida State, and USC. Ervin’s pledge marks the fourth commitment for Miami in the month of March and seventh overall in this cycle. He is also the Hurricanes’ second offensive line commitment of the class, following Ben Congdon’s March 3 commitment.
The towering 6-foot-6 lineman took in Saturday’s scrimmage and raved about Miami Offensive Line Coach Alex Mirabal and his ability to connect with his group.

“These guys are great. Just what [Alex Mirabal] teaches in the film room and then applies to the field, it’s just great. There’s not a better feeling than watching what an offensive line coach is putting in front of you and it translating to the field,” said Ervin of the coaching situation at Miami.
The tandem of Hurricanes Head Coach Mario Cristobal and Mirabal has built a reputation of developing and producing NFL talent on the offensive line. Since their time at Oregon, the two have had their hand in several NFL draft picks with the most notable being Penei Sewell, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Alex Forsyth.
Gabby Urrutia of InsideTheU reports that Ervin is drawing internal comparisons to Jalen Rivers, as the staff indicates the rising senior has the potential to be a difference-maker on the offensive line.

Jalen Rivers is another lineman who benefited from Cristobal and Mirabal’s tutelage and is expected to be drafted in next month’s NFL Draft.
Ervin’s commitment brings Miami’s 2026 class to 15th overall in the nation and fifth in the ACC according to 247Sports.
