Bryce Mitchell wasn't just beaten in his heated battle against Jean Silva on Saturday at UFC 314, he was put to sleep with an expertly applied Ninja Choke that the latter said he trained for two months to apply.
Mitchell and Silva had arguably the most entertaining build-up leading to UFC 314 with the latter targeting the former following his pro-Hitler comments on an episode of his podcast. Silva had the last word and laugh. Mitchell stepped up to face the music following his loss. He even acknowledged going to sleep.
Bryce Mitchell didn’t hide behind excuses after one of the most humbling nights of his career. The outspoken featherweight addressed the media following his UFC 314 loss and openly admitted, “I had nothing left to give.” That might be the truest statement of the night, considering Silva not only beat Mitchell—he choked him unconscious.
“I want to thank everybody for their support and let ya’ll know I’m doing just fine,” Mitchell said on his Instagram account. “Thank God, he protected me. I didn’t lose my teeth, I don’t got no broken bones. So, I feel good about that. I fought as hard as I possibly could, I couldn’t have fought any harder. I could have fought smarter. I’m going to go make some adjustments, but I mean he put me to sleep. I had nothing left to give. I’m happy about that, knowing that I tried my best, but I’ve got to get better. That’s just the lesson learned here, I’ve got to get better.”
That Ninja Choke wasn’t just slick, it was surgical. Silva said he drilled the move for over two months with the hope of locking it in if the opportunity presented itself. When it did, Mitchell had no exit route.
Silva and Mitchell’s fight was already drawing eyes due to the bizarre and offensive comments Mitchell made on his podcast prior to the event. Despite the extreme negativity of Mitchell's comments on his podcast, he enjoyed tons of support from seemingly like-minded fans. That’s…something.
Silva didn’t just submit Mitchell in the cage—he buried the beef with style and savagery. After the choke was secured and the ref waved off the fight, Silva celebrated while Mitchell lay motionless for several seconds before being revived. It was a definitive end to a personal feud that started in headlines and ended with one man’s lights out.
Here’s the moment captured from cage side:
👀Jean Silva trained his ninja choke for 2 month in preparation to Bryce Mitchell fight:
"We trained this because we needed to have this submission with Bryce Mitchell.
I wanted to show that all of my skills are above all of their levels. This is exactly the way I wanted this… pic.twitter.com/OG6bgv5kvp

Silva’s stock soared instantly. He appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show on Monday and called for a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski. At this point, I’m not sure who could argue with him.
Silva has the looks of a star. He’s marketable, and clearly has finishing ability. If he continues to back up his mic work with performances like this, a crack at UFC gold could come sooner than expected.
