Alexander spent one season in Champaign as an assistant coach on Shauna Green’s Illini staff, as Illinois finished with a 22-12 record and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for a second straight year.
“I am honored and truly grateful for the opportunity to lead the women’s basketball program at Morehead State University,” Alexander said. “This opportunity brings me home, and I’m excited to be part of a place that values hard work, meaningful relationships, and a strong sense of community. I want to sincerely thank Director of Athletics Kelly Wells and President (Dr. Jay) Morgan for the trust they have placed in me and for believing in the vision we share for this program. This role aligns deeply with my values, my passion for developing student-athletes, and my belief in building a culture that leads to sustained success. I’m eager to get to work and represent Morehead State with pride.”
A native of Brodhead, Ky., Alexander joined Illinois ahead of the 2025-26 season after working as an assistant coach at Toledo. She has also previous coaching experience at East Tennessee State, Albany and Air Force.
This marks the third time in the last four years Green has had to replace an assistant coach on her staff. Alexander and Ryan Gensler (Akron) have gone on to head-coaching jobs, while Liza Fruendt left for an assistant job at Missouri, where she reunited with her former coach in Kellie Harper.
