When the Rangers won the 1940 Stanley Cup, World War 2 was underway but players didn’t enlist until after the Cup triumph.
When Jim Hendy’s Hockey Guide appeared in the Fall of 1942, the following Rangers were listed as being “On Active Military Service.”
Muzz Patrick, Norm Burns, Matt Colville, Neil Colville, Art Coulter, Bill Juzda, Alex Shibicky, Alan Kuntz, and Jim Henry.
Some of their top minor leaguers were listed as well, including: Lloyd Ailsby, Elmer Kreller, Mitch Pechet, Jack McDonald, John Horeck, Norm Tustin, Mill Mortimer, Alex Sandalack, Gil Nordin and Bill Heindl.
According to Hendy’s Guide, the Rangers lost more players to enlistments than any of the five other NHL teams.
