Indiana Fever continue roster overhaul, waive backup frontcourt player

by

Victaria Saxton has been waived by the Indiana Fever, the team announced Monday morning.

Saxton, the No. 25 pick in the 2023 WNBA draft, played sparingly over her two seasons with the Fever. She made 25 total appearances on the court in those two years, mostly in garbage time. She appeared in 10 total games for the Fever in 2024, averaging 1.8 minutes per appearance.

Saxton’s contract of $66,710 was unprotected, so the Fever can waive her without monetary penalty.

This move puts the Fever’s roster at 11 players after their flurry of trades and signings. Indiana signed Natasha Howard and DeWanna Bonner out of free agency and acquired Sophie Cunningham and Jaelyn Brown via trade, sending out NaLyssa Smith. The team also waived Grace Berger on Sunday afternoon.

Indiana will have a little bit of wiggle room in its cap space with $132,619 left. That money could be used to sign a backup point guard that could imitate Caitlin Clark’s up-tempo play, or it could be used on one of the draft picks if the Fever want to save some money.

Indiana has the No. 19, No. 20, and No. 33 picks in the 2025 WNBA draft, giving up its No. 8 pick in the trade for Cunningham and Brown.
