Indiana Fever officially bring back Kelsey Mitchell, keep dynamic backcourt duo together

Kelsey Mitchell is staying in Indianapolis.

The Indiana Fever announced Thursday the two-time WNBA All-Star had agreed to contract terms after her core player designation.

Indiana cored Mitchell, which is a supermax salary in exchange for exclusive negotiating rights, last week. The Fever did not specifically announce her contract terms for the 2025 season.

“I’m thrilled that Kelsey is returning to Fever. She has been an integral part of this franchise from the moment she was drafted,” coach Stephanie White said in a statement. “I have watched her journey from the sideline since her time in college and have always admired her work ethic, approach to the game and the way she interacts with her teammates. I can’t wait to work with her on a daily basis.”

Mitchell has been a cornerstone of the Fever franchise since she was drafted in 2018, appearing in 235 of the Fever’s 240 games since then. She has led the Fever in scoring all but two of her seasons in an Indiana uniform, finishing three total points behind Caitlin Clark in 2024.

She has been part of the Fever for all of the franchise’s ups and downs, going through four coaches and a six-year playoff drought. In 2024, Mitchell was an integral part of Indiana’s run to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

She became an All-Star for the first time in 2023, then repeated in 2024. She and Clark became a formidable backcourt duo in 2024, with both averaging 19.2 points per game.

Mitchell is the franchise’s No. 2 scorer with 3,923 points, only behind Fever legend Tamika Catchings.

Now, she’ll be able to continue her legacy in Indianapolis.

“Kelsey has been a foundation of our franchise for many years, and we are thrilled to see her return to the Fever,” Fever President of Basketball and Business Operations Kelly Krauskopf said in a statement. “We value Kelsey’s commitment to our organization, and we’re excited to see her build off a phenomenal 2024, her best season yet. She is one of the best guards in this league and is a cornerstone to building a championship roster.”
