Indiana Fever sign another two-time WNBA champion in free agency

by

With the WNBA free agent signing period well underway, the Indiana Fever continue to aggressively add veteran players to their 2025 roster as the team reached a one-year agreement with two-time WNBA champion point guard Sydney Colson on Tuesday.

Colson joins the Fever after spending the previous three years as a reserve on the Las Vegas Aces, where she won two WNBA championships. She averaged 6.5 minutes per game in 77 games over those three seasons.

Colson was originally drafted No. 16 overall in the 2011 WNBA draft by the Connecticut Sun out of Texas A&M, but she was traded on draft night to the New York Liberty. She would go on to play with the San Antonio Stars (now Las Vegas Aces), Minnesota Lynx, and Chicago Sky over her 10-year playing career, where she averaged 2.8 points per game on 40.5% shooting from the field, 32.5% from 3-point range and 78.5% from the free throw line.

Colson’s championship resume includes a 2011 NCAA title with the Aggies and back-to-back WNBA championships with the Aces in 2022 and 2023.

The veteran point guard is widely regarded as a culture-bringer in locker rooms and someone who can bring energy in the minutes she has on the court.

As she will serve as a backup point guard behind Caitlin Clark this season, the Fever hope Colson and the other veteran players acquired via free agency can help transform the franchise’s rising young core into perennial league champions moving forward.
