After witnessing the blossoming potential that the Indiana Fever possess with their young core of Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell during the 2024 season, the Fever continue to be one of the league’s more aggressive teams in free agency by adding six-time WNBA All-Star forward DeWanna Bonner on a one-year deal.
Originally a No. 5 overall selection by the Phoenix Mercury in the 2009 WNBA draft out of Auburn, Bonner played 10 years with the Mercury, where she was an All-Star three times, Sixth Woman of the Year award winner three times and a two-time WNBA champion.
After being traded to the Connecticut Sun in 2020, she has helped the franchise get to semifinal appearances in each of her five years and a 2022 WNBA Finals appearance.

Over her 15-year career, Bonner averages 14.9 points on 41.6% from the floor, 30.4% from beyond the arc, and 85.7% from the free-throw line in 30.4 minutes per game.
As a bonus, Bonner is familiar with the new Fever head coach, Stephanie White, as White coached the Sun in the previous two seasons. Bonner also has previous familiarity with the newly appointed general manager, Amber Cox, who was president of the Mercury during Bonner’s time there and then helped recruit her to Connecticut.
The Fever’s assortment of impactful offseason moves, such as re-signing star guard Kelsey Mitchell, trading for Sophie Cunningham, and snagging veteran free agents Natasha Howard and Bonner, have vaulted the franchise into prime position within the title contention conversation.
The Fever hope the injection of veteran presence and championship pedigree to the roster will mold Indiana into championship contenders for years to come.
