India became the first team to win back-to-back men’s T20 World Cup titles when they hammered New Zealand by 96 runs in the 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The celebrations, this time in front of a home crowd, were raucous, to say the least.
The players did a victory lap around the ground, danced and cheered with the trophy.
Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan even indulged in some frenetic garba.
The players also got to savour the win with their families on the ground.
Sanju Samson was the Player of the Final for his 89 off 46 balls as opener. Samson entered the World Cup in disappointing form and ended up playing only five of India’s nine games, but he made them count, making three consecutive half-centuries, 97 not out against West Indies in the Super Eights, 89 in the semi-final against England, and 89 against in the final.
The fans made their feelings loud and clear when the players walked through the tunnel back to the dressing room.
There, of course, had to be some dance reels as well.
India have been a dominant side in T20Is over the last two years, winning 52 of their 61 matches since the start of the 2024 and losing only one T20 World Cup match out of 17 since then, their Super Eights fixture against South Africa in Ahmedabad about two weeks ago.
