Insider Suggests New Possible Landing Spot For Flyers Forward

Philadelphia Flyers forward Scott Laughton is one of the most-talked-about trade candidates in the NHL right now. It is understandable, as he is a hard-nosed center who produces offense and kills penalties.

In a recent article for Daily Faceoff, NHL insider Frank Seravalli matched a handful of top trade candidates with new teams. For Laughton, he proposed that the Washington Capitals should trade their 2026 first-round pick for the Flyers’ alternate captain.

Seravalli noted that the Capitals are looking to upgrade at the third-line center spot and argued that Laughton would give them that.

“They’re in the market for a third-line center to upgrade on Lars Eller and Laughton is a quality fit,” Seravalli wrote. “Perhaps Washington could play the deadline more conservatively than this, but it seems to fit on a number of levels. Laughton, 30, is not a rental. They do not need to have the Flyers retain money – he can fit this season and next at $3 million.”

With Washington reportedly eyeing a third-line center, it would make sense if they ended up making a push for Laughton. He would give their third line a bit more offense and also would provide them with another option for their penalty kill. In addition, his hard-nosed style of play would make him a valuable player for the Capitals when they games get tougher during the post-season.

However, from the Flyers’ side of things, a potential Laughton to DC trade would come with some risk. Most notably, the Capitals are in the Flyers’ division, so they would face him often as they aim to take that next step in their rebuild. Yet, at the same time, landing another first-round pick could be appealing to the Flyers, even with how important of a player Laughton is in the room.
