As a result of the recent retirement of Creighton‘s long-time head coach, Greg McDermott, 2026 four-star forward and priority Iowa basketball target Jaidyn Coon announced his decommittment from the BlueJays and reopened his recruitment process.
“After recent changes at Creighton, I will be reopening my recruitment,” Coon wrote on social media. “I’m grateful for Coach McDermott and the entire Creighton staff. I’ll continue to evaluate my options moving forward, with Creighton still very much in consideration.”
The 6-foot-6, 180-pound native of Storm Lake, Iowa, is hailed as the No. 116 prospect, No. 44 small forward, and No. 3 recruit in the state, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings for the Class of 2026. Coon averaged 22.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game for the Storm Lake during his senior season, en route to earning Iowa’s Mr. Basketball award, per the Des Moines Register.

While Creighton is still a potential landing spot, Coon also holds offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois, TCU, Nebraska, and Drake.
While this may or may not be a factor in his decision, it is still worth noting that Coon and Hawkeyes head coach Ben McCollum are both from Storm Lake, with McCollum playing at St. Mary’s High School.
