We get a double dose of the Hawkeye basketball teams tonight. The men are in College Park to face a Maryland team who just came off their 2nd conference win victory while the women are hosting a fellow top 25 outfit in Washington.
The Hawks will look to win their 7th Big Ten game in a row, something they achieved just once in the last 40+ seasons – the start of the 2015-16 conference season. Maryland just won at Minnesota, which has been a tricky environment for a lot of teams this season. Their only other conference win was against Penn State. Only Mark Turgeon’s inaugural season is in range of this one (139th) which finished 134th according to KenPom.

They have been without Pharrell Payne since mid-December.

Last 5 games:
2/8: W at Minnesota: 67-62
2/5: L v Ohio State: 82-62
2/1: L v Purdue: 93-63
1/24: L at Michigan State: 91-48
1/21: L at Illinois: 89-70
Going the other direction are the women. They are 0-3 in games since Taylor McCabe went down within the first minute of their win over Ohio State. It’s been a week since they’ve last played so hopefully they are more well-prepared to figure out life without their senior sharpshooter. They’ve slipped to 15th in the polls and face a Washington team who has been ranked between 20th and 25th for the bulk of the season.
This is a very important game for positioning in the conference standings – Iowa is currently alone at 4th, just ahead of Michigan State and Minnesota at 5th & Washington just behind them. Washington is 6-3 on the road.
