Iowa State men’s basketball may be back in the swing of things with summer practice ahead of the 2025-26 season, but the Cyclones’ coaching staff still has one eye on the recruiting trail.
The Cyclones secured a verbal commitment from Marcus Zelee on July 2. The 6-foot-3 point guard announced his decision on social media.
Zelee, a native of Austin, Texas, is unranked by 247 Sports, but he is rated as a three-star recruit in the class of 2026 according to On3.com. The athletic, two-way guard averaged 16.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 3.5 steals per game at Brentwood Christian Academy last winter.

He stands out best with his explosiveness, leaping ability, shiftiness and his defensive intensity. His decision to commit to Iowa State came shortly after a recent offer and visit to Ames. Aside from the Cyclones, he also had offers from Arizona State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and nearby Drake.
The addition of Zelee gives T.J. Otzelberger three commits in the class of 2026. Zelee joins fellow guards Yusef Gray Jr. and Christian Wiggins.
