Iowa State women’s basketball: Cyclones fall out of USA TODAY coaches poll

by

A week after falling from the Associated Press’ Top 25, the Iowa State women’s basketball team has dropped out of the other major poll.

The Cyclones, who went 0-2 last week, fell out of the USA TODAY Sports Network coaches poll released on Tuesday.

Iowa State, once a top-10 team in both polls, is no longer ranked after a sluggish start to the season that has seen the Cyclones go 9-5 and suffer some lopsided losses.

Expectations were high for the Cyclones after they brought back most of the team that went to the Big 12 Conference Tournament title game and was a win away from reaching the Sweet 16.

But defensive issues and struggles to shoot it from beyond the arc have hampered Iowa State early in this highly anticipated season.

Iowa State began its tumble through the rankings with a loss at Northern Iowa and a 40-point loss to the reigning national champions from South Carolina.

The Cyclones were then taken down at Iowa and were beaten soundly by UConn. Iowa State opened Big 12 play on Saturday with a loss at Oklahoma State.
