The Iowa State women’s basketball team began the year as a preseason Top 10 team in the Associated Press’ preseason rankings. But as the Cyclones suffered some early season losses, they started to tumble through the rankings.
Now, they’re completely out.
Iowa State fell out of the AP’s Top 25 poll released Monday. The Cyclones, who are 9-3 on the season, received votes in the latest poll but not enough to stay in the Top 25.
Expectations were high for Iowa State, which brought back many key contributors from a team that went to the Big 12 Conference Tournament title game and came a victory away from reaching the Sweet 16 last season.
The Cyclones kicked off the season ranked No. 8 in the AP’s preseason poll. But Iowa State suffered a road loss at Northern Iowa and was blown out by the reigning national champions from South Carolina.
Then, last week, Iowa State suffered a road loss to another instate rival, Iowa.
The Cyclones have a chance to get back in the rankings. They take on UConn, ranked fourth in the poll, on Monday.
