The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team rattled off their biggest win over the season knocking off the No. 4 USC Trojans in front of a packed Carver-Hawkeye Arena for Caitlin Clark’s jersey retirement.
The win isn’t just a perfect cap to that day, but it could prove to be a catalyst for the Hawkeyes down the back half of this season and into the NCAA Tournament. In ESPN’s newest bracketology, the win has moved the Hawkeyes off of the bubble and into the section of the last four byes.
Carver-Hawkeye Arena might still be rocking. On Sunday, Caitlin Clark’s No. 22 went into the rafters and the Hawkeyes got their biggest win — a victory over USC — since she stopped playing for them. While that game immediately impacts the bracket, its ramifications might be even bigger on Selection Sunday. Iowa went from Last Four In to Last Four Byes. – Charlie Creme, ESPN
The win moved Iowa to 15-7 overall and gave them new life in their hunt for an NCAA Tournament bid. Their next chance comes on Thursday, Feb. 6 when they make a road trip to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
