Iowa senior guard Lucy Olsen was honored on Monday as the Co-Big Ten Player of the Week after big performances in wins over Northwestern and Sunday’s upset over No. 4 USC.
Olsen scored 16 points in the Hawkeyes’ win over Northwestern on Jan. 28, connecting on 6-of-14 field goal attempts. The 5-foot-10 guard dished out six assists, grabbed five rebounds, came away with two steals and had a block against the Wildcats.
Then, Olsen was magical against the Trojans on Sunday afternoon. Olsen dropped a Hawkeye career-high 28 points to key the upset victory.
The Collegeville, Pa., native scored 23 of her game-high 28 points after halftime. Olsen finished the day shooting 10-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-11 in the second half.
Olsen connected on 8-of-9 free throw tries against the Trojans and finished with four assists, four rebounds and three steals. In the win over USC, Olsen registered her sixth 20-point output of the season, which is a Hawkeye team-high.
Olsen and Iowa will return to action at Minnesota (18-5, 6-5 Big Ten) from inside Williams Arena in Minneapolis at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday night. The game is set to broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
