IPL 2026 – Sooryavanshi snatches Orange Cap from Jaiswal

by

It’s all looking rather pink and blue at the top of the Orange Cap table at IPL 2026 after Rajasthan Royals (RR) knocked off their fourth win in a row, beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with some ease on Friday night in Guwahati.

Scores of 52, 31, 39 and 78 means the new Orange Cap leader is Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with 200 runs from four innings, scored at a combined strike rate of 266.66. The latest innings, against the might of Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, among others, was a spectacle of sorts, with eight fours and seven sixes, and made RR’s chase of 202 look like a stroll in the park.

But outstanding as Sooryavanshi has been, his opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal has been as good. The failure on the night – he scored 13 in eight balls – meant Jaiswal slipped to No. 2 on the table, but not by much: he is just 17 runs behind with 183 runs.

And making it an RR sweep of the top-three spots on the table is Dhruv Jurel, who added to the 75 he had scored against Mumbai Indians (MI) with a stunning 81 not out off 43 balls.

Sameer Rizvi of Delhi Capitals (DC) with 160 runs and Angkrish Raghuvanshi of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with 155 runs round off the top five.

It’s RR at the top of the Purple Cap table too, with Ravi Bishnoi adding two wickets to his tally to get to nine wickets, three ahead of the next best on the list, Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans (GT). Bishnoi so far has returns of 1 for 16, 4 for 41, 2 for 25 and 2 for 32, and has been leading RR’s attack after a disappointing IPL 2025.

Behind Krishna, with five wickets, are a pack of nine bowlers: Vijaykumar Vyshak of Punjab Kings (PBKS), Krishna’s team-mate Rashid Khan, Lungi Ngidi of Delhi Capitals (DC), Prince Yadav of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), RCB’s Jacob Duffy, Vaibhav Arora of KKR, Anshul Kamboj of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and two other RR bowlers – Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger.
