Is Florida football closing in on 5-star prospect Maxwell Hiller?

by

In college football, the recruiting trail in February is where conferences are won and lost — not on fall Saturdays. That’s why Gator Nation is abuzz due to the traction new head coach Jon Sumrall is dusting up with potential talent heading to Gainesville.

The Swamp247’s Tyler Harden has five-star Maxwell Hiller, a 6-foot-5.5-inch, 305-pound offensive lineman out of Coatesville (Pennsylvania), leaning towards Florida, as reported on the publication’s podcast. Predicting with a 6 out of 10 on his confidence scale, Hiller believes it’s more than likely a done deal. But only time will tell.

Sumrall has developed a reputation for winning at each of the stops in his career, and a big part of that is his success in wooing recruits to Tulane and Troy. Granted, the results are there, but those programs are not Power Four caliber and the standards are different in the SEC.

We’ll see if he can mirror that transformation here at Florida.

Primetime college football is won in the trenches and if Sumrall can secure a five-star, earth-shifting prospect like Hiller, it’ll be sure to change the tune of anyone doubting his ability to turn Florida around.

Maxwell Hiller recruiting summary

Hiller is ranked No. 4 overall and No. 1 at his position nationally according to 247Sports composite, while the On3 industry ranking has him at No. 3. He has received 35 offers, including nine SEC programs, with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers and Ohio State Buckeyes listed as “warm” alongside Florida.
