Is LSU women’s basketball back in top 5 in polls after SEC Tournament?

Another run to the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinals for LSU women’s basketball paid off in terms of the latest rankings.

The last few weeks, Kim Mulkey and the Tigers have been battling Vanderbilt for the final spot in the top 5 of the polls and after LSU advanced further in Greenville, S.C. than the Commodores, they finally overtook them for No. 5 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll, released Tuesday afternoon.

No. 20 Ole Miss eliminated No. 6 Vanderbilt in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals, allowing for LSU to slide by and land at No. 5 in this week’s rankings after LSU routed No. 8 Oklahoma by 35 points in the SEC quarters before losing a close game to South Carolina, 83-77, in the semifinals.

Next up for the Tigers is the NCAA Tournament, which will tip off next weekend. Before that, LSU will find out its seeding for the Big Dance on Selection Sunday this weekend when the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee will reveal the full 68-team bracket.
