Isabel Gose Lowers 1500 Meet Record at Swim Open; Klemet, Haughey & Corbeau Among the Winners

Isabel Gose set a 1500 meet record while Caspar Corbeau, Siobhan Haughey and Oliver Klemet were among the winners on day one of the Swim Open Stockholm.

Gose took over the lead from Moesha Johnson at the 650m mark in the longest race in the pool to come home in 15:55.04 and take more than three seconds off the 15:58.17 standard she posted last year.

It elevated the German third in the rankings behind Katie Ledecky (15:23.21) and Lani Pallister (15:44.07).

Johnson clocked 15:58.49 for second with Maya Werner third in 16:16.30.

Corbeau topped the 200 breast in 2:08.76 ahead of Netherlands teammate Arno Kamminga and Matti Mattsson, who won silver and bronze respectively at the Tokyo Olympics.

Haughey continued her strong return from injury with a dominant victory in the 200 free. The double Olympic medallist over four lengths of the pool had a particularly strong second half to her race and came home in 1:55.10, 3.85secs ahead of Zuzanna Famulok in second (1:58.95). Linda Roth was third in 1:59.02).

Klemet was in control of the men’s 400 free, finishing in 3:43.14 with fellow German Johannes Liebmann holding off the sizzling finish of Lucas Henveaux in 3:44.59 to 3:44.61.

  • Polish pair Adela Piskorska and Varvara Hlushchenko shared the women’s 50 back in 28.53
  • Jan Cecka won the men’s 200 back in 1:57.64 with Gabriel Jett of the USA second in 1:58.13
