Prior to this week, USC held just two commitments in the class of 2027. On Tuesday, that number increased to three, as the Trojans landed three-star defensive lineman Isaia Vandermade.
Vandermade plays for head coach Carson Palmer at Santa Margarita Catholic High School in Southern California. 247Sports Composite ranks him as the No. 747 overall player and the No. 83 defensive lineman in his class.

However, Palmer is not the only person in Vandermade’s life with USC connections. His father, Lenny Vandermade, played offensive line for the Trojans from 2000-2003, winning a national championship his senior year.
After a brief professional football career, the elder Vandermade has gotten into coaching. He has spent ten years as an analyst/assistant at USC across three different stints under three different head coaches. Now, he is the offensive coordinator for Palmer, his former teammate with the Trojans.
Now, the younger Vandermade is headed to his father’s alma mater. While seeing this may make some USC fans feel old, it is certainly a really cool moment that should be celebrated.
