ISU women’s basketball adds Mollie Williams as assistant coach

by

Former University of Washington standout Mollie Williams has joined the Indiana State women’s basketball coaching staff for the 2025-26 season.

Williams comes to Sycamore coach Marc Mitchell’s staff after one season as an assistant at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, an NCAA Division III program in California.

Williams replaces former ISU assistant Ashley Yu, who left to take an assistant coach position at UNC Greensboro. Williams joins Jason Pruitt, who is entering his second season, and Kietta Saunders, who joined the Sycamores in June, on Mitchell’s staff.

At CMS, Williams helped coach the Athenas to a 10-15 overall record, a six-win improvement in 2024-25 over the previous season.

The Athenas fielded one of of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s top defenses, allowing just 61.5 points per game. CMS also improved its rebounding by two per game and held opponents’ shooting below 40% from the field and 30% from 3-point range.

Prior to her time at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Williams spent three years as head coach at Artesia High School in Lakewood, Calif. As a player, Williams was a four-year letterwinner at Washington, where she appeared in 117 games, making a pair of postseason appearances in that span.

She was a captain on the 2011-12 team, which earned a berth in the WNIT, and also was on Washington’s 2009-10 team, which qualified for the WBI. Williams scored 500 points and had nearly 300 rebounds in her collegiate career. She also had a five-year professional playing career, with stops in the top leagues in France, Finland, Puerto Rico and Malta.

Williams earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology from Washington in 2012 and obtained her master’s degree in sport management from the U. of San Francisco in 2023.
