ITTF has been shortlisted for the prestigious Sport Positive Awards 2025 in the Education and Training category, recognising the federation’s commitment to driving environmental awareness and sustainable practices across the global table tennis community.
The ITTF joins 100 changemakers from across the sporting world who have been selected for their outstanding contributions to creating a more sustainable and climate-conscious future for sport. The recognition highlights table tennis’s growing role in the global movement toward environmental responsibility in sport.
The Sport Positive Awards celebrate organisations and individuals who are pioneering innovative approaches to sustainability, climate action, and environmental justice within sport. This year’s shortlist spans sports clubs, teams, leagues, venues, federations, and academic institutions from six continents, demonstrating the truly global nature of sport’s sustainability movement.
The recognition specifically honours the ITTF Sustainability Education Platform, a free online learning tool that simplifies sustainability and makes it accessible to the global table tennis community. Tailored to member associations, staff, athletes, coaches and officials, the platform offers interactive, gamified modules covering environmental and social sustainability topics aligned with ITTF’s commitments under the Sport for Climate and Sport for Nature Frameworks.
Since its launch on Earth Day 2025, the platform has already engaged over 200 individuals from 64 countries, with more than 130 having received certification. Its accessible format, combining scenario-based learning, videos, quizzes, and real-life case studies, has made it a replicable model for other sports bodies seeking practical, low-budget sustainability education solutions.
The platform’s strength lies in its simplicity and responsiveness to community needs, designed using basic tools but delivering professional, meaningful impact. It forms a core pillar of ITTF’s long-term sustainability strategy, with new modules and stakeholder engagement initiatives already underway.
Sport Positive founder Claire Poole noted: “The climate crisis is increasingly affecting the sports we love, making it essential that federations like ITTF take leadership roles in education and action. Their commitment to sustainability training is exactly the kind of forward-thinking approach sport needs.”
Winners will be announced at the Sport Positive Awards ceremony on 7 October 2025, in London, coinciding with the Sport Positive Summit running 7-8 October.
The awards underscore the growing importance of environmental stewardship in international sport, with table tennis positioning itself amongst the sports leading this vital transformation.
