by

Now there are two.

Texas A&M men’s basketball reeled in its first transfer portal under new head coach Bucky McMillan. Jacari Lane’s announcement on social media Saturday gives the Aggies a pair of scholarship players for the 2025-26 season.

“Aggie nation what’s poppin…” the post on X read, accompanied by a video of Reed Arena and it’s fans with the message “COMMITTED.”

Lane, a junior guard with Alabama State last season, averaged 17.3 points in 2024-25 — highlighted by a 16-point performance against Auburn and a 32-point outburst against Samford, McMillan’s old team.

American-Statesman reporter Tony Catalina theorized that Lane could be a fit under McMillan. Both the 6-foot playmaker and the coach are Alabama natives.

“Lane averaged 17.3 points this past season while shooting 42.3% from the field and 40.6% from 3-point range. He scored 30 or more points twice, including a 31-point performance against Austin Peay in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament. And he scored 20 or more points in 13 games,” Catalina wrote Friday.

The other scholarship player on the A&M’s roster is forward Chris McDermott. Multiple players from Samford remain in the portal and could potentially join the Aggies as well.
