Of course Jake Paul is the highest paid fighter on a card he headlines and is promoted by his own Most Valuable Promotions. It just doesn’t look that way on the disclosed payouts sheet.
Paul earned a disclosed purse of $300,000 for his headlining fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., who took home $750,000. That’s according to the California State Athletic Commission, which regulated Saturday night’s event at Honda Center in Anaheim. MMA Junkie obtained the full list of disclosed salaries from CSAC executive director Andy Foster.
Former UFC champion and International Boxing Hall of Famer Holly Holm made her triumphant return to the ring with a clean-sweep unanimous decision win over Yolanda Vega. For her effort, Holm, who signed with Paul’s MVP promotion earlier this year, earned $100,000. Her opponent, Vega, took home $22,000.
Of 22 fighters to compete on the event co-promoted by MVP and Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, eight earned a disclosed six figures, with Gilberto Ramirez topping the list at $1.5 million.
It’s important to note the numbers below reflect payouts disclosed to the California commission and do not include pay-per-view cuts, gate cuts and discretionary bonuses that may have been paid by the promotions.
