The Pelicans are expected to conduct a full search for their next head coach, with interim coach James Borrego among the candidates, according to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

New Orleans is also considering other options, including Darvin Ham and Kevin Ollie, while Jamahl Mosley is viewed as a strong candidate if he becomes available, per previous reports.

The coaching search follows a disappointing season under the team’s new front office led by Joe Dumars and Troy Weaver.

Willie Green was fired after a 2-10 start, and Borrego went 24-46 the rest of the way, as the Pelicans finished 26-56 – one of the worst records in franchise history.

Despite improved health from key players like Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy III, and Herbert Jones, the team struggled with consistency.

Young contributors such as Jeremiah Fears and Derik Queen showed promise, but Jordan Poole had a difficult season, and Dejounte Murray appeared in just 14 games due to an Achilles injury.

Borrego, 48, previously coached the Hornets and has a 172-222 career record. He’s also believed to be in consideration for Milwaukee’s head coaching opening.
