LAS VEGAS – Javid Basharat met the media Saturday after his win over Gianni Vazquez at UFC Fight Night 266.
Basharat (15-2 MMA, 4-2 UFC) outworked Vazquez (13-5-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) for a unanimous decision on the prelims at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas.

Vazquez took the fight on just a few days’ notice after Said Nurmagomedov dropped out. An apparent consequence of the late notice bantamweight fight was Vazquez missed weight by 5 pounds, which Basharat took issue with.
“Honestly, he felt so big in there. I don’t know what his weight was,” Basharat said at his post-fight news conference. “They said to me, ‘He’s a (1)25er – he can make (1)35.’ I told my manager specifically make sure it’s a ’35er. I don’t want to fight these bigger guys.
“Now the fight’s over and I won, we can talk about what really went down. I was so sick fight week. My nose was blocked, I was so sick. I was getting dizzy during the weight cut. I was like, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to make weight, but I’ve got to get the job done.’ And then he comes in and misses by five pounds. That’s why I was so pissed at him.”
