Jaylen Brown faced the media after Boston’s 109-100 Game 7 loss to Philadelphia, delivering a clear message about perspective following the collapse of a 3-1 series lead.
“No feelings of regret whatsoever,” Brown said. “I got no regrets. I don’t think my teammates should have any regrets.”
The Celtics star finished with 33 points and nine rebounds, leading a short-handed group that played without Jayson Tatum.
“Great season. Obviously it didn’t finish the way we would have liked,” Brown said. “Tonight we came up a little bit short.”
Boston had multiple chances late, cutting the deficit to one in the fourth quarter before missing key shots.
“Fourth quarter, we had some great looks that I wish would have went down,” Brown said. “But nothing to hang my head over.”
The All-Star pointed to execution rather than structure when evaluating the offense, which scored 100 or fewer points in four games this series.
“This is the playoffs,” Brown said. “We had to adjust throughout the series… and it just didn’t go our way.”
Boston shot 13-for-49 from three in Game 7, continuing a trend that shaped the series outcome.
“The shots have to go in,” Brown said. “But the style we played tonight… we played fast and freer.”
That approach came with lineup changes and increased pace, especially after Tatum was ruled out shortly before tipoff.
“I found out probably like 45 minutes before the game,” Brown said. “Nobody told me anything, but mindset was the same.”
The Celtics adjusted by going smaller and mixing rotations, but Philadelphia’s interior presence proved decisive.
“Embiid put a lot of pressure on us,” Brown said. “We didn’t really have an answer for him.”
Joel Embiid finished with 34 points, 12 rebounds and six assists, anchoring a 76ers team that erased a 3-1 deficit.
“They got better as the playoffs went on,” Brown said. “Give credit to Philadelphia.”
Brown emphasized the collective effort despite the loss, highlighting player development and team chemistry.
“It was a pleasure… I’ve watched guys develop, get better, and step up in big moments,” he said. “I’m proud of my team.”
The Celtics entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed after a 56-26 season, but exited in the first round for the first time in Brown’s career.
“This is my first time having a first-round exit,” Brown said. “It’s hard to reflect on it right now because it’s so fresh.”
Still, the forward framed the season as a foundation rather than a failure.
“I had a great time with my teammates,” Brown said. “We played hard… we left it all out there tonight.”
Brown also pointed to tactical identity, suggesting Boston could have leaned more into its Game 7 style earlier in the series.
“I wish we trusted that style more,” he said. “You saw tonight how everybody came out and played their tail off.”
Despite the early exit, Brown remained focused on the group’s competitiveness and resilience.
“This group was awesome,” he said. “This is probably one of my most fun years playing basketball.”
