As the undisputed top wide receiver in college football, any program would like to add Ohio State Buckeyes star Jeremiah Smith if he were to enter the transfer portal. Only a select few could actually command the attention of Smith, as the NIL deal would have to be significant and the location ideal.
Both could be offered by the Miami Hurricanes, as Smith is an Opa Locka, FL, native, less than a 30-minute drive from Miami. Head coach Mario Cristobal’s program spent big on a Duke Blue Devils duo of quarterback Darian Mensh and wide receiver Cooper Barkate, wooing both to commit via the portal following the season.

And while Smith wouldn’t specifically say the words “Miami,” it wasn’t difficult to guess which program he was referring to that played in the national championship game and went after him hard this offseason — despite never entering the portal.
“I knew especially at the end of that game that a certain program was going to come at me very hard. Not gonna say no names, I think everybody here knows who it was. But I wasn’t goin’ nowhere.”
Indiana was the other program in that game, but they made many of their transfer portal additions prior to the championship game, adding TCU quarterback Josh Hoover and Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh. All signs point towards Miami, Smith’s hometown school and a program that was heavily involved in his recruitment out of high school.

But despite the enticing location, Smith remains committed to the Buckeyes in what will likely be his final year of college football. He’s widely projected to be a top 10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, the first year that he’ll be eligible to be selected.
