Here are the latest news and possible return dates for injured Jets players…
Nov. 30, 5:45 p.m.
The Jets have officially placed left tackle Tyron Smith (neck) on injured reserve, likely ending his season, according to the NFL transaction wire.
Smith was already ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, but the decision to shut down the veteran tackle was made ahead of their next game.
To take Smith’s place, the Jets activated Xavier Newman off IR.
In addition, the Jets elevated RB Kene Nwangwu from the practice squad. It’s unclear what the elevation means for Breece Hall who was “trending in the right direction” this week and the team was “hopeful” he will play after hurting his knee against the Colts two weeks ago. Hall did not practice Wednesday and was limited on Thursday.
Nov. 29, 3:14 p.m.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich spoke to the media on Friday and told reporters that Tyron Smith (neck) is out for Sunday’s contest against the Seattle Seahawks. Smith hasn’t played since suffering his injury in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals.
The good news is C.J. Mosley, who has only played in four games this season, is “hopeful” to make his return to the field for the first time since Week 7 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The linebacker suffered a “scary” neck injury that he feared could’ve ended his career.
Meanwhile, Breece Hall is “trending in the right direction” and also “hopeful” to play after he hurt his knee against the Indianapolis Colts. The running back had an extra week to rest his injury as New York had a bye in Week 12, but he didn’t practice on Wednesday and was limited on Thursday.
Nov. 17, 2:40 p.m.
With the Jets trailing the Indianapolis Colts 13-7 at the half, the team announced that edge rusher Haason Reddick is questionable to return with an ankle injury.
Reddick spent some time in the blue injury tent and then headed for the locker room just before the rest of his team did for the halftime break.
Reddick had one combined tackle in the first half, and was not on the field for the two-play Colts drive to start the second half, which ended in a fumble recovery by the Jets.
UPDATE: Reddick returned to the field in the final minutes of the third quarter.
Nov. 9, 2:35 p.m.
The Jets downgraded DE Solomon Thomas to out for Sunday’s Week 10 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals, the team announced Saturday.
Thomas had been listed as questionable due to a knee injury and had not practiced all week.
The former No. 3 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers has been solid for New York in his eighth career season and third with the team. He’s played in all nine games, recording 16 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass defended. Thomas had the best year of his career last season with five sacks in 17 games.
Nov. 8, 1:26 p.m.
It looks like the Jets’ offensive line will be back to full strength for Sunday’s meeting with the Cardinals.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters that the team is optimistic Morgan Moses, Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle), and John Simpson (groin) will be able to return to the lineup after logging full practices on Friday.
“It’s huge,” he said. “It looks like we’ll have all five offensive lineman back, plus Aaron [Rodgers] feeling the best he’s felt in a long time from a mobility standpoint. We’re definitely excited about both of those things heading into this one.”
LB CJ Mosley and OL Jake Hanson, on the other hand, have been ruled out and DT Solomon Thomas remains questionable.
Nov. 6, 10:43 a.m.
Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich provided an injury update on Wednesday as the Jets get back on the practice fields to prepare for Sunday’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
Along the offensive line, Ulbrich is confident that starting tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses will be able to play, despite the duo not practicing Wednesday. At guard, John Simpson (groin) is feeling better, but the team will keep monitoring him over the next few days. Meanwhile, it sounds as if Alijah Vera-Tucker, who is dealing with a high ankle sprain, is the least likely to play Sunday among the banged up O-linemen.
Ulbrich praised rookie first-round pick Olu Fashanu for his ability to step in and play guard against the Texans, despite having never played the position before at any level, and it sounds like Fashanu may start at guard this Sunday.
Oct. 31, 10:03 p.m.
Two offensive linemen exited with injuries in the first half of the Jets’ Thursday Night Football game against the Houston Texans.
Left guard Josh Simpson (groin) is doubtful to return. Offensive lineman Jake Hanson (hamstring) is out.
New York trails the Texans, 7-0, at halftime.
Oct. 27, 11:46 a.m.
The Jets will be without a few key players on both sides of the ball in Sunday’s matchup with the New England Patriots.
Receiver Allen Lazard (chest) and safety Tony Adams (hamstring) were listed as doubtful to play, meaning it would have been a longshot for them to suit up, and now both players are officially inactive.
With Adams and Ashtyn Davis (concussion) both out, the Jets are thin at safety, which could mean more playing time for veteran Jalen Mills.
Without Lazard, Mike Williams will likely see more playing time as the third receiver.
Some good news for the Jets is that right tackle Morgan Moses, who was listed as questionable with a knee injury, is officially active.
Oct. 14, 10:50 p.m.
Cornerback DJ Reed is doubtful to return to Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills due to a groin injury, the Jets announced.
Reed was in the blue medical tent during New York’s final drive of the third quarter and was seen jogging a bit on the sideline. However, after the Jets missed a field goal, Reed did not return to the field and Brandin Echols replaced him opposite Sauce Gardner.
Gang Green’s secondary was already down Chuck Clark due to an ankle injury.
During the second half, defensive end Will McDonald was seen entering the locker room and did not reappear. The Jets did not announce an injury designation.
Eric Watts, undrafted out of UConn in 2024, replaced the former first-round pick.
Oct. 14, 9:24 p.m.
Starting safety Chuck Clark sustained an ankle injury in the first quarter of the Jets’ Week 6 game against the Buffalo Bills on Monday Night Football.
Clark, who walked back to the locker room for X-rays under his own power, was listed as questionable to return before the team ruled him out late in the second quarter.
X-rays were negative and the safety has an ankle sprain, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reported.
Ashtyn Davis replaced the veteran at the back end of Gang Green’s defense on the first series after Clark exited the game, which resulted in a three-and-out for Buffalo.
However, on the second drive without Clark, Davis was beaten by Bills wide receiver Mack Hollins for an eight-yard touchdown on 3rd-and-goal.
Oct. 6, 9:47 a.m.
Nickel cornerback Michael Carter II left the Jets’ Week 5 game against the Minnesota Vikings in the first quarter with a hamstring injury and is doubtful to return.
The 5-foot-10, 184-pounder entered the London game with eight tackles and a fumble recovery in four games this season.
The fourth-year pro, who signed a three-year, $30.75 million contract extension in early September, has totaled 193 tackles, three fumble recoveries (one forced) and two interceptions while starting 21 of 51 games from 2021-24.
Sept. 25, 12:00 p.m.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh shared some positive news on right tackle Morgan Moses, saying the veteran will not be placed on IR.
However, the Jets’ starting right tackle will miss “a couple of games” after leaving Thursday’s win over New England with a knee injury.
It was previously reported that Moses would miss 2-4 weeks, with four weeks being the minimum amount of time a player must miss if placed on IR.
Saleh did not go into specifics about the injury, simply saying that Moses is “dealing with a knee.”
On the other side of the ball, linebacker C.J. Mosley (toe) will not practice on Wednesday. Mosley did not play in the win over the Patriots, as Jamien Sherwood took over his duties in the middle of the defense.
Sept. 19, 6:55 p.m.
The Jets released their inactives for Thursday night’s matchup with the New England Patriots and C.J. Mosley (toe) is on that list.
Mosley was listed as questionable heading into Thursday but with the short week, Gang Green likely felt it was best for the veteran linebacker to sit this one out. Jamien Sherwood will take over defensive play-calling duties in Mosley’s stead.
OL Max Mitchell and Carter Warren, RB Israel Abanikanda, DL Eric Watts and CB Jarrick Bernard-Converse are also listed on the team’s inactives for Week 3.
The team also officially moved Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) to the IR. They signed DL Jalyn Holmes to the active roster and elevated LB Marcelino McCrary-Ball from the practice squad.
Sept. 18, 2:31 p.m.
Linebacker C.J. Mosley has officially been listed as questionable for Thursday’s matchup with the New England Patriots due to his toe injury. If Mosley can’t go, Jamien Sherwood would take over as the defensive play caller in the middle.
In better news, corners D.J. Reed (knee) and Michael Carter (ankle) were not given game designations, meaning they’ll be good to go, barring something unforeseen.
Sept. 17, 12:24 p.m.
The Jets have a short week as they prepare for their Thursday night home opener against the New England Patriots, and head coach Robert Saleh provided a few quick injury updates on Tuesday morning.
Saleh said that nickel Michael Carter (ankle) is going to be “fine,” calling the injury “an on-and-off thing.”
Meanwhile, corner D.J. Reed, who was inactive for the Week 2 matchup with Tennessee due to a knee injury, is “progressing well,” as is linebacker C.J. Mosley, who left the Titans game with a toe injury.
If Mosley can’t play on Thursday night, Saleh said that he has full confidence in Jamien Sherwood’s ability to communicate the defensive play calls and make the necessary checks.
Sept. 15, 3:22 p.m.
Linebacker Jermaine Johnson was carted off in the third quarter of the Jets’ Week 2 game at the Tennessee Titans due to an Achilles injury and ruled out.
Johnson’s injury appeared to be a non-contact one. After rushing the passer on a third-and-1 play at the Titans’ 38-yard line, where Will Levis moved up in the collapsing pocket and scrambled for a first down via a 21-yard gain to the Jets’ 41 at the 4:41 mark, Johnson went to play his left leg and fell down. He reached down for his lower left leg before he fell down at the Titans’ 28-yard line.
Johnson, 25, is a third-year pro after the Jets selected him from Florida State with the 2022 NFL Draft’s No. 26 overall pick. In last Monday’s 32-19 loss at the San Francisco 49ers, Johnson totaled two tackles.
Sept. 15, 2:40 p.m.
Linebacker C.J. Mosley has been downgraded to doubtful to return for the Jets at the Titans due to a toe injury. At 1:43 p.m., the Jets initially announced that Mosley was questionable with a foot injury.
Mosley was injured on a first-and-10 from the Titans’ 16-yard line, where Tony Pollard took a 15-yard carry to the 31 for a first down at the second quarter’s 14:51 mark. A horse collar by Jets safety Chuck Clark pushed the ball to the Titans’ 46-yard line.
Mosley, 32, is in his fifth season with the Jets. He totaled nine tackles in Week 1.
