Florida Star Julian Smith Discusses Intentionality and Training With Liendo/Dressel
Over the past few years, Julian Smith has been a valuable contributor for the University of Florida, flourishing as a breaststroker and sprint-freestyler for the Gators. As a junior, Smith was a member of two NCAA-championship relays – the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay – and he set personal-best times of 50,94 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 1:41.97 in the 200 individual medley.
Smith recently appeared on the Social Kick Podcast with hosts John Mullen, Bryan Lundquist and Luke Paddington. The full interview, which spans an hour, provides an all-encompassing look into Smith’s career and his plans for the future. It also takes a look at how Smith has progressed since joining Florida after a standout high school career at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville.
A specific segment of the Social Kick interview focuses on the intentionality in which Smith attacks practice. The senior emphasizes every stroke he takes, making sure that not a moment in the pool is wasted. More, Smith talks about the influence of those around him in training – including NCAA champion teammate Josh Liendo and multi-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel. When surrounded by excellence, Smith notes that the bar is raised.
