Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. fight like Pimblett vs. Chandler

by

Jake Paul is using a recent UFC fight to defend his upcoming matchup against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) boxes Chavez Jr. (54-6-1, 34 KOs) in a cruiserweight bout on June 28 in Anaheim, Calif., which airs live on DAZN pay-per-view. Chavez Jr. will be 39 when he makes the walk against 28-year-old Paul, but “The Problem Child” wants to remind everyone of his opponent’s accolades.

He compared this fight to Paddy Pimblett vs. Michael Chandler, which took place earlier this month at UFC 314. Pimblett scored a TKO of Chandler, who was eight years his senior when they fought.

“Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a former world champion, a cruiserweight world champion,” Paul said in a video. “The same weight as me, the same size as me, and 20 years more pro boxing experience than me. For you inbreds, let’s get the excuses out of the way.

“Last week, Paddy Pimblett beat Michael Chandler, and the whole world lost their mind, but not a single person mentioned Michael Chandler’s age. That’s because he’s still within his prime ages, the same age as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. If people didn’t have a problem with Paddy, then why do they have a problem with me? So, when I beat him, don’t even try to cry about his age.”

While Chavez Jr. is still competitive, he’s certainly not in prime form. He is 3-3 in his past six, including a loss to former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, whom Paul defeated. Chavez Jr. was able to return to the win column after almost three years away when he defeated ex-UFC fighter Uriah Hall by unanimous decision last July. Meanwhile, Paul is coming off a unanimous decision win over 58-year-old Mike Tyson this past November at AT&T Stadium.
