Junior National Backstroke Finalist Ava Eddy Verbals to Arizona State for 2027
NEW COMMIT: Arizona State University has landed another impressive verbal commitment for Fall 2027, this time from Junior National qualifier Ava Eddy of King George, Virginia. Eddy is primarily a backstroker.
She will join Delaney Barbee in Tempe at the start of the 2027-28 season.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I am beyond excited and honored to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic journey at Arizona State University!! A big thank you to my family and friends for supporting me, Coach Dylan and Coach Conner for pushing me to be the best version of myself, in and out of the pool. Also special thanks to Coach Herbie for this amazing opportunity. Forks up”
Eddy, who does her club swimming with Rappahannock Stingrays Swim Team, placed 14th in the 200 back at the Juniors East this past December with a new personal best time. Last summer, she collected bronze in both the 50m back and 100m back at Virginia Long Course Seniors before going on to take 13th in the 100m back and 19th in the 200m back at Junior Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 53.86
- 200 back – 1:56.13
- 50 free – 23.70
- 100 free – 51.63
- 200 free – 1:53.71
Currently a junior at King George High School, Eddy earned gold in the 50 free and silver in the 100 back at the 2025 Virginia Class 4A State Championships. She won the 100 back and was the 50 free runner-up at the state meet during her sophomore season.
The Sun Devils won the 2025 Big 12 Championship. Eddy would’ve qualified for the B-final in both the 100 back and 200 back at the conference meet.
