Junior Nationals Day 3: Gavin Keogh Breaks Meet Record in 200 Backstroke
The 2025 U.S. Junior National Championships continued from Irvine, California, with the Day 3 finals.
The events for the session include the women’s and men’s 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 400 free.
Gavin Keogh, an NC State recruit, broke the meet record in the men’s 200 backstroke.
Here is a look at what happened on Day 3:
Junior Nationals: Women’s 200 Backstroke
Tideriders’ Sydney Schoeck dropped nearly two seconds from prelims to capture the title in the 200 backstroke. She got to the wall in 2:11.81.
Pleasanton Seahawks’ Daniela Linares was second in 2:12.19, followed by Schroeder YMCA’s Maggie Dickinson (2:12.24).
Memphis Thunder’s Roos Rottink finished fourth (2:12.90), followed by Nova of Virginia’s Lane Francis (2:13.36), Memphis Thunder’s Eva Rottink (2:13.86), Clovis Swim Club’s Rowyn Wilber (2:14.07) and Mecklenburg’s Shaelyn Shields (2:15.67).

Junior Nationals: Men’s 200 Backstroke
Flatiron Athletic’s Gavin Keogh broke the meet record to claim victory in the men’s 200 backstroke. He got to the wall in 1:57.88 to break the mark of 1:58.42 set by Flood Aquatics’ Josh Zuchowski in 2022.
Williamsburg Aquatics’ Andy Roose took the silver in 2:00.30, ahead of Gwinnett Aquatic’s Baylor Stanton (2:00.31).
Mason Manta Rays’ Hayden Meyers finished fourth in 2:01.61, followed by Great Waves Aquatics’ Paul Moody (2:01.77), Badger Swim Clubs Michael Geh (2:02.40), Bolles School’s Ethan Bathala (2:03.11) and Northeastern’s Aiden Gerst (2:03.23).

Beach Cities Swim Club’s Gabi Brito continued her strong week with a win in the 100 butterfly. The 15-year-old won the race in 59.49, one of two swimmers to break a minute.
SwimMAC Carolina’s Caroline Mallar finished second in 59.61 and Empire KC’s Lucy Velte was third in 1:00.02.
Sierra Marlins’ Jada Duncan took fourth in 1:00.06, followed by Jersey Wahoos’ Alyce Lehman (1:00.10), Bellevue’s Clare Watson (1:00.14), Tennessee Aquatics’ Ellie Stanley (1:00.21) and Commonwealth Swim Club’s Mena Boardman (1:00.56).

Long Island Aquatics’ Alex Siegel finished second in 4:15.30, just ahead of Scarlet Aquatics’ Chloe Kim (4:15.54).
