The Chicago Sky’s season-long search for consistency hit another snag on Tuesday, dropping their second straight game 81-79 to the Washington Mystics.

The loss accounts for their sixth in the last eight games and 13th on the season, landing them the second-worst winning percentage (.278) in the WNBA.
However, on Wednesday, the Sky received a timely boost ahead of their home matchup against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings, revealing that second-year center Kamilla Cardoso would be active for the contest.
Cardoso has missed the last four games competing for Brazil at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup tournament, three of which resulted in losses.
Cardoso was selected third overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky after a stellar tenure at South Carolina.

She won two national championships (2022, 2024) and was named NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2024, anchoring the Gamecocks’ defense and earning First-team All-American honors.
In her rookie season (2024), Cardoso made the WNBA All-Rookie Team, averaging 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 27.4 minutes across 32 games (29 starts).
She also spent the 2024-25 offseason with Shanghai Swordfish, earning WCBA International Player of the Year honors.

Before leaving for international duty, Cardoso was averaging 12.7 points, 6.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game, ranking third on the Sky in scoring, second in rebounding and first in blocks.

On June 24, her last game before departing, Cardoso exploded for a career-high 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks in a 97-86 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.
If she picks up where she left off, Chicago’s fortunes could shift, at least for a night.
