Kansas basketball announces signing of Illinois transfer guard Tre White to Jayhawks

LAWRENCE — Tre White’s addition to the Kansas basketball roster for next season is official, after the Jayhawks announced his signing on Monday.

White, a guard who spent this past season at Illinois, will be a senior at KU for the 2025-26 campaign. He’s also played for USC and Louisville during his college career. He joins Loyola-Chicago transfer guard Jayden Dawson in Kansas coach Bill Self’s growing transfer class this offseason.

“We are so happy we signed Tre,” Self said in a KU release. “We’ve known him a long time and it’s come full circle since he committed to us as a high school freshman. He’s got good size at 6’7″ and can play multiple spots, like a Swiss Army knife. We feel he’s an immediate major contributor, a playmaker, and with his size can guard one through four.”

White is listed at 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds, and averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game for an Illinois team that reached the round of 32 of the NCAA tournament. His size and length could prove to be vital for a Kansas team that doesn’t just need that because of the players transferring away from this past season’s squad, but because the Jayhawks need it in general. White has been a consistent contributor at each of the places he’s played to date.

Kansas is coming off of a season in which it finished 21-13 and exited the NCAA tournament in the round of 64. Despite coming in as a preseason No. 1 team, and the Big 12 Conference favorite, the Jayhawks were not able to live up to those expectations. Self and company, with White’s help, will look to try to return to form next season.

Then with Illinois, guard Tre White (22) drives against Kentucky forward Andrew Carr (7) in the first half of a NCAA tournament game in 2025 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
