Katie Shanahan & Matthew Ward Claim More Silverware As Scottish Nationals Wrap Up

The Scottish National & Open Short Course Swimming Championships came to an end in Edinburgh with more trips to the podium for Katie Shanahan and Matthew Ward.

Shanahan, who finished fifth in the 200 back on her Olympic debut in Paris, was a clear winner of the 100IM in 1:00.30 ahead of Katie Goodburn (1:01.34) and Grace Davison (1:01.60).

That followed the 200 free in which the University of Stirling athlete led until the 150m mark after which she was overhauled by Lucy Hope who won in 1:57.32 ahead of the fast-finishing Davison who clocked 1:57.49 with Shanahan next home in 1:57.61.

Ward dominated the 200IM and eventually won by more than two seconds in 1:55.14 ahead of David Annis (1:57.34) and George Smith (1:58.17).

He returned for the 100m backstroke where Cameron Brooker was the only man inside 51secs in 50.59 with Jack Skerry second (51.24) and Ward third (51.78).

Kara Hanlon put in a strong and controlled display in the 100m breaststroke, coming home to take gold in 1:06.42, ahead of Ellie McCartney of Limerick who won silver in 1:06.86. Anna Morgan took the bronze in 1:06.91.

Jack McMillan claimed the 400 free in 3:41.86 to sweep the 100-200-400 treble, Calum Bain triumphed in the 50 free (21.97, Brodie Gordon-Gibson took the 100 fly (52.24) and George Smith won the 200m breaststroke (2:08.69).

Keanna MacInnes upgraded 100 fly silver to gold in the 200 in 2:06.72 with Caitlin Ebbage taking the 50 back in 27.85.

The University of Stirling were crowned top club points tally of 1697 after three days of racing.
