Host Northern Iowa got off to a 16-2 start in Missouri Valley Conference women’s basketball Thursday night, but Indiana State battled back to take a brief lead in the third quarter before eventually falling 91-79.
ISU (8-16 overall, 4-10 MVC) continues its road trip Saturday at Drake.

UNI (12-12, 5-5) plays next Thursday at Southern Illinois.
The Panthers’ early lead was still 14 points and 32-18 after a quarter, but the Sycamores got within five by outscoring their hosts 28-19 in the second period.
ISU took the lead with 6:54 left in the third quarter on a 3-pointer by Tierney Kelsey, but Elisa Jaeger scored inside to give UNI the lead for good a little over a minute later.
Kelsey ended up with a season-high 27 points.
It was 71-67 after three quarters and still a five-point game at 80-75 late in the fourth period, but the home team finished the game with an 11-4 run.
Kelsey led the Sycamores with a season-high 27 points, while Jayci Allen and Clemisha Prackett came off the bench to score 13 and 12 respectively. Samiyah Briggs had 10 points.
Ryley Goebel had a game-high 32 points and 16 rebounds for UNI, with Jenna Twedt scoring 24 points, Kaylynn Janes 17 and Jaeger had nine points and 13 boards.
