Kent State’s Delrecco Gillespie commits to Houston men’s basketball

Delreccro Gillespie has found a new home.

The former Kent State forward announced on Instagram on April 11 he has committed to play basketball at the University of Houston. He will have one year of eligibility remaining.

Kent State Golden Flashes forward Delrecco Gillespie (23) flexes after a shot against Ohio during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game in the quarterfinals of the MAC Basketball Tournament at Rocket Arena, March 12, 2026, in Cleveland, Ohio.

The 6-foot-8 Gillespie led the nation in double-doubles this season with 22 in 34 games. He averaged 17.7 points, 11.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. His scoring average was almost 10 points higher than the previous season.

A first team All-Mid-American Conference and All-MAC Defensive Team selection, Gillespie averaged 9.4 points in 105 games (55 starts) over four seasons with the Golden Flashes. He was granted an extra year of eligibility because of an injury early in his career.
