The Kentucky Wildcats will take the field for their season opener on Saturday, August 30th, when they host the Toledo Rockets.

The Athletic recently revealed its rankings of all 136 FBS teams, with Kentucky checking in at No. 70.

Interestingly, Toledo checks in at No. 71.

Chris Vannini wrote blurbs for each of the 136 FBS teams in the country. For Kentucky, he asked the question of whether Zach Calzada can get the Wildcats out of a tailspin.

With Toledo, he says that their quarterback, Tucker Gleason, will lead what should be the MAC’s most talented team again.

Kentucky is coming off a disappointing 4-8 season in 2024. Toledo went 8-5 with a win in the GameAbove Sports Bowl over Pittsburgh.

Right now at ESPN Bet, Kentucky is a 7.5-point favorite against Toledo, but ESPN College Gameday host Rece Davis said on the College Gameday podcast that Kentucky is on upset alert in that game. The Rockets received 13 votes in the first AP rankings of the season compared to Kentucky’s zero, so this is not going to be a cakewalk for the Wildcats on August 30th.
