Kenny Brooks and the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team didn’t go all the way at last week’s SEC Tournament, but they did win two games before running into South Carolina in the quarterfinals. Their wins over Arkansas and Georgia were both solid, and gained them two spots in this week’s USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll.
The Wildcats come in at number 17 this week, up from number 19 prior to the tournament. They remain the sixth highest ranked team from the SEC, however.

The SEC Tournament champion Texas Longhorns lead the way for the SEC at number three, followed by South Carolina, the LSU Tigers, and Vanderbilt in spots four through six. The Oklahoma Sooners are also in the top ten, meaning the SEC has half of the top ten positions once again.
Overall, eight SEC teams are ranked this week, and another received votes. It has been a strong conference all season, and looks to remain so heading into the NCAA Tournament.
The brackets for the women’s NCAA Tournament will be revealed on Sunday, followed by what figures to be an interesting March Madness. Kentucky has proven they can play with the top teams, now they need to prove they can beat them.
