When the Kentucky Wildcats‘ high-flying guard entered the transfer portal, it seemed like the BYU Cougars might be his destination.

Now? There are reports that affirm that.

On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton wrote this on X on Thursday:

“BYU is the frontrunner for Kentucky transfer Collin Chandler, however he has left the door open to a possible return to Kentucky depending on how conversations go in the coming days.”

The fact that a Kentucky return is still possible is particularly fascinating.

As a sophomore this winter, Chandler averaged 9.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game — and he threw down some impressive dunks.

He had been committed to Mark Pope at BYU while in high school, but after Chandler’s two-year mission trip, Pope had moved on to Kentucky, and so Chandler followed him.

BYU has shelled out plenty of recent NIL money, and it would be a return to Chandler’s home state, too.

The premise of a Kentucky return didn’t seem all that likely when he entered the portal, so that has added another wrinkle, too.

Whatever Chandler decides has the potential to be quite impactful on next year’s college basketball season.
