Kim Mulkey records 750th win as LSU women’s basketball beats Kentucky

Sunday’s comeback win for LSU women’s basketball was head coach Kim Mulkey’s 750th win as a head coach.

Against No. 14 Kentucky, LSU faced its largest deficit of the season, being down by 16 points in the second quarter. In the second half, the No. 7 Tigers fought through adversity and put the game away late in a back-and-forth fourth quarter.

Mulkey, in her fourth year at LSU, has a .862 winning percentage over her head coaching career. Before heading to Baton Rouge in 2021, she led Baylor for 21 years, making it to four Final Fours and winning three national championships.

The Tickfaw, LA native played college basketball and coached at Louisiana Tech. Mulkey was with 11 Final Four teams and three national championship teams during her 15-year stint.

Two years after returning to her home state, Mulkey led LSU to its first national championship in women’s basketball. She took over a team that had won nine games the previous season, finishing 26-6. The Tigers hosted first and second-round NCAA Tournament games a season before they won it all.
