Olympic Champion Kyle Chalmers Expecting First Child With Fiancée Ingeborg Løyning
The world’s premier 100 freestyler for the last decade is soon to become a father. Kyle Chalmers and his fiancée, Norwegian Olympic swimmer Ingeborg Løyning, announced in an Instagram post that they are expecting a daughter later this year. The announcement featured the two swimmers wearing “Dad” and “Mom” hats while holding a photo of the sonogram confirming Løyning’s pregnancy.
Numerous other Olympians chimed in to express their congratulations to Chalmers and Løyning, including fellow Australian gold medalists Ariarne Titmus, Grant Hackett, Michael Klim, Mollie O’Callaghan and Shayna Jack. British breaststroker Adam Peaty, who has continued racing at a high level since becoming a parent, called the news a “blessing” while former Dutch sprinter Ranomi Kromowidjojo proposed “a sick Olympic final some day” with Chalmers and Løyning joining fellow accomplished swimmers Sarah Sjostrom, Federica Pellegrini and Katinka Hosszu all expecting or having recently given birth to daughters.
Chalmers has won medals in the 100 freestyle at three consecutive Olympics, taking gold in a stunning finish in 2016 before earning silvers in 2021 (behind Caeleb Dressel) and 2024 (behind Pan Zhanle). Chalmers, 26, has also won six relay medals in his Olympic career as well 22 total World Championship medals (15 long course plus seven short course). He was the world champion in the 100 free in 2022 (short course) and 2023 (long course), and he owns the world record in the short course event.
