Kyle Larson is just too good at Bristol, and he knows it.
Running the triple at the East Tennessee colosseum, Larson nearly swept the weekend, coming in second in Trucks and winning the Xfinity and Cup races.
Even though the Cup Series race may have been boring for many fans, with Larson dominating and leading over 400 laps, the Hendrick Motorsports driver was having the time of his life, saying it “was fun feeling like I figured out [the track] before everybody.”
In an interview on Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, the 2021 Cup Series Champion was asked about his motivation behind running the triple. He says a lot of it is just because he loves the tracks, but he has a particular reason for running the Xfinity Series.
“This might come off cocky,” he started. “I want to embarrass them honestly. I just want to embarrass NASCAR a little bit. They don’t let Cup guys run anymore, and the kids probably think they’re in a good spot. They don’t know where the bar is really at. So, I like to run those Xfinity races and just get ten seconds leads to let them realize that they got a lot of room to improve.”
He put it simply, saying, “I want to smash the field when I run Xfinity.”

The 32-year-old driver isn’t just doing it because he loves dominating on his favorite tracks. He believes it actually will benefit the Xfinity drivers in the long run to compete with Cup drivers like himself.
“I think that’s only better for our sport,” he said. “When those young guys can compete with Cup guys, they’re better suited for the Cup Series once they get there.”
Kevin Harvick agreed saying, “Dumbing it down so that everybody can do it doesn’t make it any better.”
