Kyle Snyder releases first statement since prostitution sting arrest

by

Olympic gold medalist Kyle Snyder issued his first statement Wednesday following his recent arrest in a prostitution sting.

Snyder, 29, was arrested May 9 by the Columbus Division of Police. He was one of 15 busted in an undercover operation according to police. He was released on the scene but is due in court on May 19.

“I want to thank everyone who has reached out with kindness and support,” Snyder wrote on his social media pages Wednesday. “My focus is on my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family. This is not conclusion of my journey. 1 Peter 4:17-18.”

According to police, Snyder responded to an online ad soliciting sexual activity for hire. The ad was posted by the department’s Police And Community Together Unit. Snyder allegedly called and texted an undercover officer, setting up a time and location, showed up at a hotel, and paid the officer cash. He was then arrested.

Snyder won Olympic gold in 2016 and in doing so became the youngest Olympic champion in U.S. wrestling’s history. Snyder’s decorated wrestling resume also includes three world championships, seven Pan American championships, and three NCAA Division I championships.
